No One Is Buying Smartwatches Anymore

On Monday, According to the report from market investigation firm IDC, Sales and purchase of the smartwatches have been badly affected. The shipment of the watches has been down almost 51.6% till the third quarter of 2016. Obviously, this is the bad news for the production houses of all smartwatches. Especially, Apple has been affected by this, this year apple faces 71.6% decrease in the shipment of its smartwatches.

It is known that the Apple is the leading company in the smart watch making and it holds almost 41.3% product of the market. but according to the report of IDC apple only shipped 1.1 million smartwatches in the third quarter of 2016 as compared to the 3.9 million last year. It was expected that after the release of the Apple watch series 2, the company may break the previous records but that doesn’t happen yet.

As from the report, Garmin is the only company who did very well since the last year. Its sales have been increased up to 32.4% and positioned itself on the  second place in the vendors. The company’s main focus is on the health and fitness, should be the main area where vendors need to concentrate. After Garmin, Apple focused on the health and fitness rather than current trend and fashion.

According to the IDC, the main reason behind the declining sales of the watches is the lack of the new hardware.

After viewing that Apple and Pebble’s watches fails to attract the market, Google has delayed its Android wear 2.0 until next year, trying to give surprise to its customers.

Jitesh Urania, a senior research analyst for IDC Mobile Device Trackers says in a press release:

IT HAS ALSO BECOME EVIDENT THAT AT PRESENT SMARTWATCHES ARE NOT FOR EVERYONE. HAVING A CLEAR PURPOSE AND USE CASE IS PARAMOUNT, HENCE MANY VENDORS ARE FOCUSING ON FITNESS DUE TO ITS SIMPLICITY. HOWEVER, MOVING FORWARD, DIFFERENTIATING THE EXPERIENCE OF A SMARTWATCH FROM THE SMARTPHONE WILL BE KEY AND WE’RE STARTING TO SEE EARLY SIGNS OF THIS AS CELLULAR INTEGRATION IS RISING AND AS THE COMMERCIAL AUDIENCE BEGINS TO PILOT THESE DEVICES.

The addition of latest hardware and software will let the companies gain their lost positions.
