MIT helped make a nightmare machine

There are different types of scientists in which some work on curing disease, some devote themselves to the global climate change and some spend their time in making nightmare machine and learning algorithms in order to utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) to display humans’ deepest and darkest fears.

MIT teamed up with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organizations (CSIRO) of Australia in order to make a nightmare machine, the purpose of this is to study what terrifies us a species. Using deep learning algorithms in order to identify the terrorizing impact and also applying them. Otherwise good images like the Taj Mahal, an Ikea catalog and, naturally, Kermit the Frog are available.

It’s not easy being a nightmare hellscape. MIT and CSIRO team has provided almost 200,000 images on a site and asking the users to vote them on the scariness scale. From the blog post of the CSIRO, here is the most horror movie-esque line:

“The algorithm grew hungrier and hungrier for more user data until it was able to think and feel on its own.”

Apparently, the nightmare machine is working on its own. The team has planned to test the difference between the perception of the machine and human, the perceptions are about the scary constitutes in nonstyle rating system for nightmares.
